Knee problems prevented him from running many laps around his local park by his early 40s, but Theroux still needed a way to stay active. His innate curiosity led to the Joe Wicks YouTube series. <em data-node-id=\"21.3\">Joe and PE<\/em>it quickly became a staple of his daily routine.<\/p>\n<p data-journey-content=\"true\" data-node-id=\"26\" class=\"css-6wxqfj emevuu60\">&#8220;I came by faith,&#8221; Theroux said in 2020. \u201cIt\u2019s almost a security blanket, when there\u2019s so much weirdness going on in lockdown and everything going on, just writing down the non-negotiables in my diary every morning. I became a bit of a missionary convert to Joe Wicks&#8217; exercise program. \u201d<\/p>\n<p data-journey-content=\"true\" data-node-id=\"30\" class=\"css-6wxqfj emevuu60\">Theroux completed every day of the series except for one, and the pair then appeared in a BBC workout video in 2022. 10- to 30-minute bodyweight sessions with a body coach helped Theroux get into the best shape of her life, but beauty wasn&#8217;t her main goal. &#8220;It&#8217;s not a muscle issue, it&#8217;s a mental health issue, but muscle is a byproduct,&#8221; he told Lorraine Kelly.<\/p>\n<section aria-labelledby=\"recirc-heading\" data-lazy-id=\"P0-19\" data-node-id=\"31\" class=\"inline-content-module\"\/>\n<section data-embed=\"youtube\" data-lazy-id=\"P0-20\" data-node-id=\"32\" class=\"embed\"\/>\n<section data-node-id=\"33\" data-lazy-id=\"P0-21\">\n<h2 title=\"The Case for \u2018Ambient Exercise\u2019\" data-anchor-id=\"the-case-for-ambient-exercise\" class=\"body-h2 css-1gywm4a emt9r7s1\">Example of \u201cAmbient Exercise\u201d<\/h2>\n<\/section>\n<p data-journey-content=\"true\" data-node-id=\"37\" class=\"css-6wxqfj emevuu60\">Despite his dedication to bodyweight training, Theroux has been candid about not having any interest in traditional gym training.<\/p>\n<p data-journey-content=\"true\" data-node-id=\"41\" class=\"css-6wxqfj emevuu60\">&#8220;I think all the gyms where people work out should be closed. I think it&#8217;s completely pointless for people to spend their energy doing nothing,&#8221; he told the TikTok account Subway Takes.<\/p>\n<p data-journey-content=\"true\" data-node-id=\"45\" class=\"css-6wxqfj emevuu60\">Instead, he advocates what he calls &#8220;ambient exercise,&#8221; or movement that blends naturally into daily life.<\/p>\n<p data-journey-content=\"true\" data-node-id=\"49\" class=\"css-6wxqfj emevuu60\">&#8220;In the past, people actually had useful jobs.
